YMB-048Michael Woodley, CEO of the Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation (YAC), says Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) is exploiting a State heritage system in crisis. As FMG prepare to launch into full-scale mining at Firetail/Solomon, Mr Woodley believes their haste and defective heritage management practices risk a monumental disaster for this mountain sanctuary of Yindjibarndi sites dating back tens of thousands of years.

What can one do but weep. These are the graves are sacred, the final resting places of the true ancestors of all of us who love this country. To destroy the true history and deep culture of the Yindjibarndi people is something this nation must bear in shame. The greedy high held fists of miners are full of dollars. They deny and desecrate every Aboriginal right, every human heart. They strut St. George’s Terrace and they strut the world as their explosions and great machines tear the heart from our nation, but no-one whispers no. We all bear their shame, even in our quiet suburban lives, we cannot be free from our collusion. And we cannot say I didn’t know or it was not done in my name. We are compliant. And powerless (at least we think we are) and that’s the same. May the greed of miners tear and eat their vital organs. May the hands of government that hold the sharp pens that sign over sacred places to the iron ore barons, turn to ash before they touch the paper. May the sun rise burning everyday until this destruction of our human heritage ends…May this nation recognize that greed always takes away the rights of others.

Until they have the graves of their loved ancestors desecrated they will not understand – it might be time to teach that painful lesson however hard that might be for us to do & it goes against everything we believe in, but sometimes life’s best lessons are painful & difficult ones… Time to hire a bulldozer & head for their cemeteries & explain what & why we are doing this to get some empathy & understanding from those who are ignorant…. Maybe then the world will realise the harm they are doing????

    • jtk says:

Debra, you’re right. Only bulldozers in city cemeteries will make those $ men realize there are some things more sacred than their greed is god credo.

Just like white man of the past, they are doing it again to us aboriginal peoples. We have to say NO to their blood monies, NO to them taking our CULTURE and DESCRICRATING IT! ENOUGH!!!The white man have NO RIGHT to Yindjibarndi Land! NO RIGHTS WHAT SO EVER! Don’t let them destroy more sacred land sites, let our ansestors lay in peace. Let our culture enrich the lives of our future generations, let the dreamtime stay alive, do not allow white man to take that away!! They think nothing is for the good of the country, I don’t believe a filthy lying word that comes out of those mouths! Stand strong and don’t sell our culture our ansestors resting places and historic paintings and stories they tell our kids.. without that what do we have? White man don’t have Yindjibarndies BEST INTERESTS at heart, just how much MONEY they can make from destroying the land..

  4. Pete says:

Destructive bludgers? Now that is a concept that needs repeating about the actions of some miners!

  5. Lois Achimovich says:

So sad to desecrate sacred land for a few years of mining! Money trumps beauty and reverence for the land yet again. A letter writing campaign to politicians is all I can think of at the moment. Thanks for all the work YAC is doing to save such a unique place.

  6. Cromlek says:

Twiggy and Co and bastards of the highest order >>> BUT, if the Yindjibarndi are gonna sign it away, what do you expect?

  7. rebecca henry says:

bloody hell! Is the government really going to allow them to go ahead?

  8. Erwin Seemann says:

I can hardly believe what I just read. This kind of disrespect makes me sick. I’m normally a peaceful person. But in this case I would run the risk of having to go to jail because it itches in my fists to slain Mr. Forrest and his henchmen. I’m so enraged. My brothers and sisters, stays strong and chased away these evil vultures from YOUR COUNTRY. Love and respect to you.

  9. Gerry Georgatos says:

Thanks, will publish the story in the National Indigenous Times. Kindly, Gerry.

  10. Tony Carr says:

It’s time we started seeing miners as destructive bludgers not the saviours they want us to think they are.
